Did Sazed get memories as fast as Taravangian when he Ascended?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes he did… but getting memories and getting these things and knowing what to do with them and stuff are different things. But yeah, I would say the experience was somewhat similar.

For a person to ascend as a [Vessel], is it enough to have a Connection with the Shard, or does their general intent/mindset have to align with the Intent of the Shard (like Rayse and Odium have both shown similar mindsets)? If the intent needs to be similar, how did Ati, who was described as a kind person, pick up a Shard like Ruin? And if the intent doesn't need to be similar, how did the people at the Shattering manage to ascend, as the Shards had just been created? Did they have to go through some process to create a Connection? Or did they all somehow already have a Connection with Adonalsium (and thus with all the Shards) which made it easier to Ascend?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes, there did need to be some Connection created--there was a lot going on with this. But it is possible for intents to not align and someone to take a Shard. It's way easier if intents do align, but humans don't tend to align 100% to any specific intent.

In Oathbringer, Dalinar says the third ideal of the Bondsmiths:
"I will take responsibility for my actions, and each time I fail, I will rise again a better man."
He then opens a perpendicularity, saving the battle of Thaylen Field for our heroes. Later, Odium is ranting to Taravangian about how Dalinar wasn't supposed to Ascend, with a capital A.
The question - is Odium's use of the word "Ascend" referring to ascending to the next Ideal of the Bondsmiths, or is there something more going on there?
Brandon Sanderson
I used a capital letter there intentionally, and normal saying of oaths would not get a capital letter.
That is in a character's perspective. There's a character using that capital letter, the character uses that capital letter intentionally.
Questioner
If a nicrosil Ferring and Misting Twinborn burned a mountain of nicrosil, would he become Harmony?
Brandon Sanderson
A mountain?
Questioner
Yeah, like, he burned literally tons--
Brandon Sanderson
No, he would not. It wouldn't work that way.

Is it possible for a sentient bit of Investiture to pick up a Shard? Like a spren or Nightblood?
Brandon Sanderson
(paraphrased)
It would be possible yes, well, for a spren or a seon for example, it would. Nightblood could theoretically but it would be difficult for various reasons.

Right, because he has no hands.

Would they have to be embodied to be able to actually use it effectively, or would they have the same limitations as Kelsier did when he was a cognitive shadow ?
Brandon Sanderson
(paraphrased)
They would have the same limitations yes, but there are ways around that.

Right, like Ishar is working on.
Brandon Sanderson
(paraphrased)
Right.
Questioner
Has an unborn child ever been Ascended?
Brandon Sanderson
Ascended to be a Shard? No, that has not yet happened.
Questioner
Maybe not a Shard but...
Brandon Sanderson
Oh. Ascend to like a... No. I would say no. It hasn't ever happened. It's not implausible that the mother could Ascend and the child would... But it hasn't happened.
