Is Shallash/Ash going to be a Dustbringer? (So Dalinar's count can be all 10 orders)
RAFO
Say something is brought into the Cognitive Realm, and then the actual object is brought in through a portal…
That’s a RAFO, good question.
The audience of the book knows of the UTol system “for other reasons.” When will we, the readers, know about it?
Someday. Maybe. RAFO.
Gavilar's black sphere. What was inside of it and how many does he have?
Well, it is what you think it is. And he had-- yeah... He had access to several. Did we canonize this Karen?
*shakes head*
No, we haven't canonized it. I'm going to say RAFO on the number, but it is what you think it is and what the third book implies that it is.
On Roshar, because of there's no tectonic activity, it would suggest that it's possible that the magnetic dynamo inside doesn't create enough of a magnetosphere to protect life from solar radiation, so my question is, do the highstorms function as a form of protection against solar radiation?
That's an excellent question.
That's a RAFO. *laughter*
That's a really cool question.
The note to Spook states that Sazed hasn't yet figured out how to put souls back into bodies. Is he going to learn that skill eventually (I'm expecting a RAFO here, but I figured I'd ask anyway)?
RAFO. (Sorry, but this is plot sensitive for a future series.)
Did the Ire form before the events of Elantris or do they form after the city is healed?
This is an excellent question! :) (And one I'm not going to answer yet, I'm afraid.)
Herr and Frue, the Jaggenmire, are they related to Bavadin?? Or Trell and Nalt??
RAFO.
The Nightwatcher is described as having an amorphous, vague, humanoid form of dark green mist with a smooth, defined face. This is similar to how the mistpren are described (faces like porcelain masks and bodies of swirling fog). Did the Nightwatcher serve as the progenitor of the mistspren similar to how Honor, and later the Stormfather, were progenitors of honorspren like Syl.
One more time.
...Did the Nightwatcher serve as the progenitor of the mistspren similar to how Honor, and later the Stormfather, were the progenitors of the honorspren like Syl.
...Are you talking about author inspirations or in-world sort of things?
Either.
No, not in-world. And out of world, it's the reverse. Mist spirits came before. I ended up doing--
No, mistspren.
Oh, mistspren. So you're saying the ones in Shadesmar... You're using terms for things, because I haven't given you other terms.
They are named mistpren in the books.
Yeah. So ask me one more time.
Did the Nightwatcher serve as the progenitor of the mistspren similar to how Honor and later the Stormfather were the progenitors of the honorspren like Syl.
Okay, I see what you're asking now. I was thinking mist spirit the whole time. We'll RAFO that. More because-- yeah we're just going to RAFO it.
When Hoid is playing for Kaladin, has he Awakened some part of himself to help him play?
No, he's not Awakened anything to help him play.
Did he use Allomancy?
RAFO.
The Ghostbloods. Are they Kelsier's new crew?
Oh, good question... Do I wanna answer this or not? *laughter* I'm gonna RAFO this one. Yeah, we're gonna RAFO this one. It is the RAFOlympics after all.
Have there been interactions between Kelsier and the Ghostbloods?
I will RAFO that.
I was just wondering how many Ascensions had taken place before The Lord Ruler Ascended?
That is a RAFO. Excellent question.
Hi. Our question is Cosmere. It's, knowing that Odium destroys whomever may become a menace for him, then is it possible that the Knight Radiant broke their vows not to attract his attention over Roshar?
RAFO. Why the Knights Radiant broke their bonds is something I RAFO, because it is an important, big plot element of the series.
So Wit, is he in any other books besides The Way of Kings?
Yes. He has a nice big feature in Warbreaker. He appears in all the others just in little pieces here and there. In Warbreaker there is a storyteller that she meets with the dust and things like that and his name his Hoid.
What was the other one you said?
He's in all of them, but in Elantris he's a guy with a hidden face that Sarene hires to carry supplies into Elantris. In Mistborn he's a guy that Kelsier meets with that pretends to be blind, but then Kelsier notices he is not really blind. He's an informant that Kelsier gets information from.
What's the thing you're most excited about doing for Stormlight 4?
I've got a really cool thing set up for Wit's epilogue that I've been planning to do for a long time. So the Wit soliloquy at the end is going to be a little extra special.
Are the [shades?] [from Threnody] all over the planets?
That's a RAFO. I [am not going? would have?] to tell what the Evil is, and things like that.
I know it’s a RAFO but, are the Ones Above [Scadrians]?
RAFO.
I just wanted to make sure.
Was Hoid's role as the royal jester in The Emperor's Soul influenced by Robin Hobb's character the fool?
Yes.
My RAFO question will probably be, will an Allomancer or a Mistborn take that chip of Honorblade that fell off and burn it?
*hands RAFO card*
So on Ashyn, was the magic system always diseased based?
That was the diseased based magic.
Yeah, before-
I'll RAFO that. It isn't exactly the same as it was.
What is brollin? Slowswift mentioned them in the same breath as spren and shades.
Ah, RAFO!
<Did the man Lift met is Hoid>?
It is Hoid.
In book three, right? In book three.
Oh *inaudible* Lift? *inaudible* No, that's not Hoid. So she references having talked to him but it's not someone she meets in this. In the beginning, she mentions him but he's not specifically in this. Right? Sorry, I thought you meant *inaudible*.
*Inaudible*.
Yeah, of course, that makes sense. But yes, so, she met him - but she talks about him, she didn't - it's not him on the street.
(From my notes:
In Edgedancer, Lift references talking to Hoid but he doesn’t show up himself there. She met him, she talks about him but he doesn't appear in Edgedancer.)
Will we ever get to see a Kelsier vs. Kaladin showdown?
RAFO
I was wondering, the point of views for the prologues *photo pause* will we ever see one from Gavilar's point of view?
That's a big ol' RAFO. Because I want it to be surprising to see who you get each book.
If Nightblood was in the Cognitive Realm, what damage would he do to...
If he were actually there? I thought you were going to go with the obvious one of, "What does he look like?" But I'll RAFO both of them.
When Lift eats food, does she convert it directly into Stormlight, or some other form of Investiture?
RAFO.
Is the woman around Wit's age named Reya?
RAFO
Why didn't Hoid take the second bead of lerasium?
Hoid knew that if he did so, bad things would happen.
So Hoid writes a letter to his old friend, was that before or after he got the bead of lerasium?
That was after he had taken that, the letter.
What does Hoid think of the Ghostbloods and what do they think of him?
The Ghostbloods are intrigued, and he is unimpressed.
The visions that have Dalinar and Renarin are very different. This is related to the type of their spren ? One related to Cultivation who allows to see the future and other related to Honor who allows to see the past ?
Afraid this is a RAFO.
Is the remove of Shalash statue connected to the man speaked gibberish that Szeth met before he assasinated Gavilar?
RAFO.
You know the principle where someone who has two powers actually has three powers, because of resonance?
Yeah?
How does this apply to Harmony, who has two entire Shards?
RAFO.
Is there a Hoid cameo in Shadows for Silence?
There is not. I intentionally didn't put one in, because I didn't-- couldn't come-- there was no reason for him to be there, and I didn't want to be doing it just to do it, if that makes sense, like, the Cosmere isn't just a bunch of cameos, it is a story within itself.
One I think might border even further on RAFO - in RoW, Dalinar accepts Kaladin's Fourth Ideal. I'm wondering, is it possible for Dalinar to... power-level a Radiant up to the Fifth Ideal by just accepting all their Oaths without regards to, you know, underlying fitness? Danger and safety issues aside. The Stormfather's comments on Ishar's powers being beyond the scope of what Honor allowed makes me assume he can.
RAFO, as you expected. But without Honor around, some of the things he could do are kind of up for grabs.
Has Renarin been a Radiant since before we first met him in The Way of Kings?
RAFO, saving it for the Renarin pov parts to explore.
So in Words of Radiance you've got a character called Wit, who has a conversation with Kaladin in which he uses the phrase "bunny rabbit" which obviously doesn't exist in the language that Kaladin speaks. So my question is where and when did the language that he used come from?
So Hoid, or Wit, is actually try-- using magical means to communicate and so when he says a word it just transliterates it or just doesn't translate it into anything in that language. So you'll notice him slipping up on a number of occasions-- he is the only one who uses certain words in the course of-- That's not the only one in The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, because he's just speaking normally and allowing his other means to translate for him. And that's a sign, a symbol, of that happening.
What happened with the Shard that just drifts in the space, the one that wants to hide and survive?
What about that Shard? They want to hide and survive.
Huh, something more?
I think I will RAFO that for right now.
What happens when you direct a stream of water at the border of a bubble in Alloy of Law Mistborn?
Let's do a RAFO on that.
So the Sleepless kind of have me wondering about what sentience is in the cosmere. Like how would a Sleepless manifest on the Cognitive Realm--
That's a good question, you'll-- that I'll RAFO. But they are a single consciousness, but they would argue that all your cells are independent of you. So they are cells that can move around. They're really fun... they started in a non-cosmere book when I was 22. Obviously a bit inspired by Fire Upon the Deep, one of my favorite science fiction books. And I read that book and I'm like, "Group consciousnesses are cool!" what if you had a species that was made up of-- Not like one of these Ender's Game y'know, one, but each swarm was an individual and they could breed and evolve their own things to do different stuff. So each of these little bits, these hordelings is what I call them-- I might change because we've got cremling now. But each of these little bits is bred for a specific purpose, "Feed the swarm" and stuff like that. So they've got all kinds of cool stuff going on.
Are they slivers?
Oh slivers. Not quite like slivers. Slivers are a little more that whole Ender's Game thing, right? And this is actually an individual that's not a hivemind. This is an individual, single consciousness, and they've got a step between cell and body. We kind of do too, like mitochondria are kind of "What are these? Are these things we ingested somehow and got working for us?" It's all very cool.
So is it like Malazan Book of the Fallen, like the D'ivers?
Ehhh, there's little--
Okay, a little?
Yeah.
Does the Shard Odium seek to separate things, much like the Shard Honor seeks to bind things together?
An interesting theory.
Is there anything you can tell me about the Deeper Ones?
About what?
The Deeper Ones?
No, unfortunately. If I write the Threnody novel, they will be involved a great deal, how about that?
So on theoryland there are a couple of WoBs regarding Selish Shadesmar and the ones that stuck out to me were how Rosharan Shadesmar is aligned with Roshar georaphically (and in turn, the other planets are too) and with the name of Sel's shadesmar expanse.
So my question/assumption is...Given the above geographical alignment and sometimes inverse nature of Shadesmar, is the Expanse of the Broken Sky Sel?
I'm not going to confirm what any of these are, I'm afraid. (At least not yet.) You are free to theorize as you wish.
What kind of spren is Hoid's favorite?
He is quite fond of Patterns.
Is Hoid aware that he's fictional?
No.
So he's not like *unintelligible*
He's not. And any quotes along those lines are-- that you might think he is saying for that reason are actually in-world-- for in-world reasons you don't understand yet.
If Lift went to Nalthis and got Breaths. Could she then eat the local food and turn it around and use it to Awaken?
RAFO.
is Sazed important? >.< as in is he (Sazed) as important as, say, Hoid?
Sazed is both more important and less important than Hoid. It depends on who you talk to and which story you’re in.
...At some point in the novel, there is a character who gets a certain, shall we say, powerup that falls in-line with many things that he, or she, already has. Is there, from an Investiture standpoint, is there a Compounding effect?
Yes, there will be. *laughter* If we're talking about the same individual.
Since Shallan has a unique ability of memory from her blended surges, is fighting what Kaladin has?
No. His unique ability is "strength of squires".
And Jasnah?
RAFO.
Probably a RAFO question but why does Syl have an aversion to shard equipment? Is it something inherited from Kaladin's interaction with shardbearers?
RAFO. (You'll will find out eventually.)
