What the heck happened, did Taravangian do to Wit?
Brandon Sanderson
You'll find out more in the next book. He stole a few of his Breaths, and they had memories attached to them.

If a tribe of singers were to worldhop to Nalthis, and live there for a few generations, would their pure singer offspring begin to be born with Breath?
RAFO. Good question, though. Excellent question!
You said earlier... putting back splinters. Was the Oath breaking part of that?
Oath breaking? Oh, the Oathpact. The abandoning of the Oathpact we will talk a lot more about in the future, so I'm gonna RAFO that for now.
Was there something special at Urithiru before the city was built?
RAFO.
I like that question, I hadn't thought of that.
I actually had thought about that one.
Did the kandra that's running around on Roshar have a speaking role in Oathbringer?
RAFO!
So Nightblood. Is it going to go into maybe in the next book how Vasher loses him, because I'm assuming that's what [Szeth] gets at the end of the book?
*Coyly*
Oh you assume that this is uh yeah...
So far as we know that's the only sentient sword...
You will find answers to these questions eventually.
Does the painting from Nalthis seen by Kaladin appear elsewhere? Will it?
RAFO!
Everybody talks about steel-steel twinborns. A big topic of discussion. What I'm thinking about, I haven't seen anybody ask, what happens when somebody who's tapping speed, does a steelpush, does the steelpush react in realtime or accelerated time? And the object-- is it like a railgun?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm surprised that no one's asked me that before. This gets really dangerous really fast... It's RAFO territory, but you are thinking along the right lines.
What about... Doomslug? What's up with Doomslug?
Doomslug will be answered pretty soon... Doomslug is relevant.
Brandon has said that the Ashynite disease-based magic was related with the Old Magic. Did he mean it in a direct way? Like this magic from Ashyn was a branch or a variety of the Old Magic system?
I do have to RAFO this, for the most part. Suffice it to say that the disease magic is related to a symbiotic bond between spren-like Investiture and microorganisms.
Are Kaladin and Shallan going to end up together?
Read And Find Out.
Is Sja-anat going to join the Knights Radiant?
RAFO.
Is that theory correct where, like, the Heralds are basically, like, reversed now. Kind of going against their thing or...
*laughs* He won't tell us.
I know, I know. That was my question, which I knew you wouldn't *inaudible*.
I just wanna know more what Szeth and the stone is?
You get-- you get a RAFO card. There you go.
Did Odium have something to do with Adolin killing Sadeas, 'cause in Thaylenah he said that he had been preparing Sadeas' troops for a long time.
RAFO
So the orb thing in a Secret History, that he breaks?
Yes, mhm.
How does that work? Like is it-- is Connection a Shard and it has the essence of Connection in it? Or...?
*sighs* It is more complicated than that.
Okay.
<In> email then. *questioners laugh*
That's a RAFO, without being a RAFO.
So, when the group was in Shadesmar, Adolin's sword seemed to kind of take on a life of its own and attack him. Is it possible for a dead spren to come back?
They would say no, in-world. I will say RAFO.
Are spren alive? Can splinters be alive?
RAFO!
Nananav, from Oathbringer. Worldhopper?
RAFO.
Could you tell me when the Ghostbloods were founded?
Yeah. I’m gonna RAFO that.
When Szeth Surgebinds, frost forms on his clothing. Why?
Ehhh, I’ll get around to talking about that eventually.
Are the Svrakiss cognitive shadows?
RAFO. But you expected that.
Do the Sleepless name themselves? Seems like they would since they spawn from "lost" swarms. Would they think of themselves as the original swarm at first? Would this would bring in all the scifi clone identity problems where the clone doesn't own it's identity?
RAFO for now. I'll get into their society some other time.
Can you shed some [light] on why Ruin's last words were "Vax"?
No, I can't, I mean I can but I'm not going to.
What is the range on Jasnah's Soulcasting like, and is [there] a hard limit on how much she can Soulcast at once?
RAFO.
Did the Five Scholars ever speak directly with Endowment in a way that they would remember?
*thinking noises* I'll RAFO that.
If a kandra were to somehow take the form of a dragon, would they notice any differences in anatomy, or is it spot-on impersonation?
I'm going to RAFO that, to leave Dragonsteel for Dragonsteel when we get there.
Are there any detrimental side effects to worldhopping, and if so, have we seen/read it in any of your books?
Uh, it depends on what method you're using to worldhop.
And the second half of that question?
And the second part of that is RAFO. *laughter*
What happens when you flare copper?
What happens when you flare copper? Various different things can happen when you flare copper. I'll RAFO that for now. [...] I'll delve into that more, I don't want to delve into it too much right now, you'll find out, probably in Era 3, some of the things that can happen with copper.
Does the Shard of Autonomy have a paired Shard (like Ruin/Preservation or…Cultivation/Preservation)? I was thinking that Unity would work as the opposition of Autonomy, though we don’t even know what Unity is.
RAFO.
1) Will the truth of how Evi really died matter to Dalinar's sons? In other words, is it reasonable to expect Adolin, most notably, will react negatively given he believes his father would have never burned the Rift?
2) Dalinar claims he could forgive Adolin for not being the man he thought he was. Is it reasonable to expect this is easier said than done?
1) It would be reasonable to expect that many people (Adolin foremost among them) will react negatively to the truth--which is indeed contained in Dalinar's book.
2) Yes, I would say that's a reasonable expectation as well.
Thank you for the answer, I much appreciate it. Can I ask if it is reasonable to expect some ramifications with respect to those elements within the next book or if this won't be on topic?
We're getting into RAFO territory, I'm afraid.
Is Vaeria still a planet name in the cosmere or was that scratched?
RAFO.
One question, two parts: If a double nicrosil Twinborn started Compounding and storing Investiture in a nicrosilmind, could they do something cool by tapping a whole huge bunch at once? And since Scadrialians have both Ruin and Preservation in them, could they store both those qualities in a one nicrosilmind, or would it require two different ones?
Ha. All things regarding Investiture (particularly in regards to Feruchemy) are instant RAFOs at this point, I'm afraid. I've got to save SOME things for future books.
What drove Jezrien mad?
You will see firsthand in the series.
Is Adolin unkilling Maya? RAFO?
I'll give you a [RAFO] card.
With Hoid, we know that he's got some sort of Lightweaving, Yolen magic. If we're gonna hypothetically say that he bonds with the Cryptic, at the end of Oathbringer. Talking about resonance between magic systems, what are we going to see if he tried the two together? Would they be separate? Or would they form some sort of resonance magic system?
So, I'm gonna go ahead and RAFO that.
Why did Bloody Tan see TenSoon (as the Survivor) and Marsh (as Ironeyes)?
He said that he was not answering any questions on what Bloody Tan saw, or thought he saw.
There's... a foreman named Trell. Is it cosmere significant or is it just someone--
RAFO
Um, Dawnshards. So, they obviously predate the arrival of humanity on Roshar. Are they of Odium? Are they Odious Investiture?
I will RAFO Dawnshards.
I'm imagining that killing a Dawnshard would work similarly to killing a Shard? As in, depending on how they're killed the Dawnshard either "drops" or is splintered?
RAFO.
Regarding the sibling relationships of Yesteel/Arsteel and VaraTreledees/Shashara, were either pairing Returned simultaneously? If so, how did they know they were siblings? And do any of the four know their original birth names? Finally, is it coincidence that there are two pairs of siblings in the Five Scholars or is there something more at work?
I do intend to delve into questions like in your first point when I return to that world, so I'll RAFO for now.
Can you tell us something about the Order of Willshapers that hasn't been mentioned?
No, I can't. Because, too many spoilers, in that sort of area. And plus, I don't want to lock down some of the things that... because I'm not sure how I'll represent them yet in books. I know what I'll probably do, but I have... there's certain things about it that, until I write a scene from someone's eyes, using the magic, that then is kind of when it locks down for me. So, we will stay away from that.
Now, I can share the Dawnshard theory I am currently running with, and you can super RAFO it (while also providing a cryptic teasing hint that will frustrate for years?). But before that, thank you for this book. It's not quite Secret History level stuff, but it's fantastic in a very similar way, and I am genuinely happy, and giddy, and also not a small amount of confused :P
But theory. So, I am thinking that the Dawnshards are Commands in the way "Let there be light" is a command, and the four of them are enough to explain everything. If one of them is Change (something into something else), then other plausible options might be Create (something from nothing), some form of Destroy (something into nothing), and... Stasis? Maintain? Remain? something like that.
Super RAFO! Nice theory.
Ooh, another "identity of the Dawnshards" theory, triggered by OP's "Let there be light" comment: I don't suppose the Dawnshards are in any way related to Maxwell's Equations (of which there are four), which govern electromagnetism? I used to have a t-shirt that said "And God said: <Maxwell's Equations>. And there was light," which is what got me thinking.
That's a big old RAFO, but mostly because I'm trying to stay tight lipped on the subject of Dawnshards.
When did Vasher find out about Shadesmar and travel to Roshar?
I will try to cover this in the sequel to Warbreaker when I write it. So for right now, you get a RAFO card.
Feruchemists that can store Investiture, would they be able to then use that to power Allomancy with say Stormlight?
RAFO.
Is there a spren for the Everstorm?
RAFO. Good question.
Is it necessary to touch a Shard--not necessarily to become its Holder, but to at least touch it briefly--to Splinter it?
RAFO.
Does Dalinar's "unite them" thing has something to do with Adonalsium?
RAFO, I'm afraid.
Is Hoid using the Lerasium as a metalmind.
That's a read and find out, but I'll give you a card!
Is Shallash/Ash going to be a Dustbringer? (So Dalinar's count can be all 10 orders)
RAFO
Two quick questions: Will we find out more about the Surges Division, Cohesion or Tension? We know practically nothing about them!
Could an Elsecaller Transport themselves into the Spiritual Realm? Has anyone tried?
RAFO! (Sorry. I'm not likely to answer questions about the book when we've got it coming so quickly.)
